Instructors / Teaching Teams / Facilitators:

Student participant perspective:
From the student perspective, the companion simulation is designed to engage and be rewarding at a range of study levels.

Participants act as a board of directors considering and deciding on a wide range of strategic issues which affect the performance of the company.

Students can play the simulation and submit their decisions individually for assessment purposes.

Instructor & Participant Resources:
These are all downloadable and easy to use and understand.

Teaching Team Control & Simulation Customisation:

The teaching team has control over the following simulation set-up factors:
Level of complexity:
The simulation can be set-up for three levels of complexity, making it very flexible -
Standard, Intermediate and Advanced (see section XYZ for a full explanation).

Standard

Opens up Trial Trading
Period plus 4 Trading
Periods, i.e. 5 Trading
Periods in total, plus
finances at Level 1.

Intermediate

Opens up Trial Trading
Period plus 6 Trading
Periods, i.e. 7 Trading
Periods in total, plus
finances at Level 2.

Advanced

Opens up Trial Trading
Period plus 8 Trading
Periods, Trading Periods
7 & 8 being very advanced
agenda / decision items,
plus finances at Level 2.

Agenda Item selection:
Instructors have the option to choose:
• Total number of Agenda Items per Trading Period.
• Plus the minimum and maximum number to be decided upon.

Class Groups:
Instructors can set up class groups, so students can participate as a class group.

Timetable:
Instructors can choose a timetable from a number of preset options - so the simulation can be run over a number of hours over one day, or over a number of days or weeks. This means that the simulation could be used over a residential weekend or over 8 weeks within a semester.

Decision Uploads and Automatic Processing:
Participating students upload their own decisions according to the chosen timetable and results are calculated automatically, so the teaching team does not get involved in inputting decisions.

The number of decisions taken for each period - plus the number of decisions periods - will vary in accordance with the chosen level of complexity and set-up.

Results / Performance Measures:
All stages of the simulation and results can be reviewed and printed on-line by both instructor and student. As a security measure, all results are emailed to the instructor.

Results - or performance measures of decisions taken - are in financial and non-financial terms as follows:
• Financial, i,e. top line profit and loss statement and balance sheet, or more in-depth financials, depending upon level of complexity
• Non-financial, performance measures
• Share Price - both of which impact on the quoted share price

Review of submissions & Results:
Individual student submissions and results can be reviewed by the instructor.
They can be printed / downloaded as a group for class review and discussion.

Student / participant Performance Report:
Individual participants can print off a Performance Report for reflection and / or discussion.

Archive:
All submissions and results for each class group can be archived for reference purposes and security.
